Giant Carrot Weighing 10.17 Kg : Giant Veggie Farming Is Now Becoming An Obsession Among A Few In The Western Countries

Published

on

What’s the obsession with growing giant vegetables? The answer is simple. Getting into the Guinness Book Of World Records is a like an icing on a cake, like a Nobel prize for some, for some its a childhood or an adulthood dream, for some its a hobby. Whatsoever it may be, they are obsessed with it.A giant veg gardener from Minnesota, The US named Christopher Qualley is one among the few who like growing giant veggies. He says that it been three years since he started regular gardening.

He urged to grow a record-breaking carrot weighing in a whopping 10.17 kgs that too in his second attempt. Now it’s in the Guinness Book Of World Record for the heaviest carrot grown. A good motivation for a beginner I say.

We found the man bringing up the world record-breaking carrot :

When asked whether the whole giant veggie farming was for the Guinness Book, he said “Obviously yes! That is the whole idea behind growing giant veggies”. He says that there is this voice at the back of his head that says grow bigger, bigger… Guinness. You need to get into the Guinness, make me proud you, Carrot… it’s like taking care of your children. Care and dedication are required. One cannot assume that it will grow in a week or so, you need to be patient.

How does he grow this huge veggie???????

Chemicals, nuclear waste, magic, like the magic beans from the Jack and the Giant Bean Stalk, No..no..no. These notions are for movies and cartoons he says. He said that he just tries to follow the footsteps of the best giant veg gardeners like Paton Brothers, Matthew Willemjims, Ron Wallace etc. The soil is the most substantial for growing giant veggies. That is of utmost importance.

Then you have dedication, care, and patience.

What happened to the carrot then?????

“Did you eat it?” He just laughed at this question and jokingly said that his mom-in-law just had a bite. She wanted to be the only person who ate a bite of the Guinness World Record holder and laughed her heart out. Christopher put the carrot back into the soil so that it can seed. They seed once a year. In case they seed he would distribute the seeds to other giant veg gardeners.

What next Mr. Qualley??????

A Pumpkin… Tomato…

Pumpkins and potatoes are his favorites. He said that he had grown a tomato weighing in at 7.07 lbs. Only 15 of them have been grown weighing 15 lbs. You are on the right track, Mr. Qualley. It’s a competitive sport. And you will have to compete with the best giant veg gardeners you learn from. Best of Luck for that. Break more records in the days to come to Mr. Qualley. Will leave you for the farming.
